WHAT DO I NEED FOR TREKKING AND TRACKING?

WATER

This is probably one of the HIGHEST trekking needs. Gorilla trekking can be very tiresome and you need to refill your yourself as the trek goes on. It is advisable to take a few water salts or chews before you go on a trek. Carry extra with you packed in your hiking gear or for easy access in one of the pockets of your hiking clothes.

BOOTS

You will need good waterproof comfortable shoes or boots as one of your trekking needs. Boots are a preferred choice as part of your hiking clothes. Sometimes it rains during the trek, so skidproof shoes can come in handy.

RAINJACKET

You are advised as another trekking needs to carry a rain jacket as part of your hiking clothes because it rains frequently in particular Bwindi Impenetrable forest. You can easily pack it with your hiking gear.

SNACK

You can carry a light snack with your hiking gear or in the pocket of your hiking clothes to give you some energy during the walk in the forest which is extremely important as one of your trekking needs.

TROUSERS AND SHIRTS

Bwindi Forest for example is covered with thick undergrowth, therefore light trousers and long sleeved shirts are advised as part of your hiking clothes.

SOCKS & GLOVES

As far as your hiking clothes will have to tuck your trousers into your socks to avoid insects such as safari ants from crawling inside. As well, a pair of gloves such as gardening gloves will be very useful for keeping your hands protected from your walking stick, grabbing onto and moving branches and if need be protect them when bracing the ground if sliding. Even if you feel you initially do not require them it is important to have them as one of your trekking needs pack with your hiking gear.
